Some could say it was a repeat of their first fight back in 2015.
Daniel Cormier is still your Light Heavyweight champion after a tough and gritty win over Anthony Johnson.
Rumble came out all guns blazing before initiating several wrestling exchanges against the cage. Many felt this was a bad move considering DC’s credentials in the grappling department.
It looked like Rumble was landing some hard shots in the first. He wobbled Cormier with a left head kick that appeared to break DC’s nose. The first round ended with AJ taking down DC at the siren.
In the second, Rumble was visibly tired after wrestling with DC in the first. Cormier was able to initiate his body locks and bring the fight to the mat. When on the mat, Cormier eventually took Rumble’s back and started pounding him with shots. Johnson wasn’t responding well to the shots and did little or no hand fighting. Cormier eventually tucked in an arm and locked in a rear naked choke to force a quick tap from Johnson mid-way through the second round.
After the fight, Rumble announced his retirement from MMA.
DC on the other hand, engaged in verbal exchanges with Jimi Manuwa and Jon Jones at octagonside.
