It was Edson Barboza fighting against Beneil Dariush at UFC Fight Night 106 Saturday night. The fight ended when Barboza’s slit-second thinking downed Dariush with a swift knee to the face.
Here’s what happened step by step. Then, watch the full clip below.
Dariush is in the blue shorts and both fighters just waiting for a good opportunity to strike.
Dariush makes the first move — and it is a good one. A quick, straight right to Barboza’s face that caught him clean.
But that’s when things started to go south.
After landing his punch, Dariush begins dropping his head towards the ground. This is a pretty smart move in boxing. Even if you can be hit with an uppercut, moving your head down like this means you’re limiting your chances of swallowing a hard counter-punch. Mayweather does this all the time.
This isn’t boxing, however, and thanks to some quick thinking from Barboza, he responds to Dariush’s punch by doing something boxers can’t: Lifting his right knee up.
Bam. Fight Over.
