But.. she was just getting started?
There aren’t many MMA Fighters that transcend the sport and make a name for themselves outside of the Octagon. Paige VanZant is one of few active fighters to have done that. Appearing on the last season of ‘Dancing With the Stars’, VanZant’s popularity is at an all time high.
Sadly her Octagon appearances haven’t lived up to that popularity in recent times. While she impressively switch kick KO’d Bec Rawlings post DWTS, she suffered her second loss in the UFC by first round sub to Michelle Waterson in December. Many believe she peaked too early and at just 23 years of age – has plenty of time to improve.
But given her success outside the Octagon, Team Alpha Male coach Urijah Faber isn’t against the idea that she could call it a day soon.
“I wouldn’t put it past her. I mean in all honesty, I think she’s doing this sport because she loves it along with the rest of us, but it’s time in versus what you get out, and that’s a decision she’ll have to make on her own.”
Rumours spread this week that PVZ may have left Team Alpha Male, her long-time training camp. Urijah, one of the head coaches at TAM, addressed the rumours.
“Yeah, I just talked to Paige this morning. We’re not exactly sure what Paige is planning on doing for her fight camps. You know, she’s always welcome here and I may go out there and help her. She did move to Oregon where she’s from originally, I mean, that’s where her family’s from and everything. She bought a house and that’s her home place.”
So it looks like she may have moved camps for now. Hopefully she has another run in her, because we think we have yet to see the best of PVZ!
