George St Pierre wasn’t impressed with Michael Bisping’s trash talk in their pre-fight press conference.
It’s the comeback every MMA fan has been waiting for. Around two weeks ago, George St Pierre and the UFC announced they had finally come to terms on a new contract and a return to the UFC.
Once the return was announced, the big question arose. Who would GSP fight in his return to the Octagon?
Several names were floated about – Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, Demian Maia, Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz, even Conor McGregor.
But in an unprecedented move, the UFC announced that GSP would challenge Michael Bisping for the Middleweight belt. This would mark his first fight in the UFC at a higher weight class than Welterweight.
In his first public appearance since re-signing with the organisation, George St Pierre appeared opposite his foe Michael Bisping at a press conference over UFC 209 weekend in Las Vegas. The two exchanged lots of heated words. George St Pierre even claimed that Michael Bisping had been drinking prior to the event.
In an interview on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, GSP talked about his experience sitting opposite Middleweight champ Bisping.
“I do not believe Michael Bisping is a good trash talker. I believe the best thing he did for me was to talk. He embarrassed himself every time he opened his mouth. I didn’t have to say anything.”
GSP has never really been known for his trash talk and unfortunately, in the years since exiting the UFC, it’s become more frequently used as a promotional tool. Words were exchanged when the two faced off and GSP revealed what was said.
“He said some stupid nonsense like ‘You’re small, I’m gonna beat you.’ I said ‘Yeah you might be tall, but you’re gonna fall from high.’ I’m just not good at talking. It’s not my thing, English is not my first language.”
There has yet to be a date announced for the Middleweight super fight. GSP revealed roughly when it will happen.
“It will be after July. After the summer. That’s for sure.”
It might be awhile away yet, but for now George St Pierre is enjoying the build-up. He had some parting words for his brash opponent.
“He’s not a good trash talker. He’s terrible at it. The more he talks the more he embarrasses himself and looks bad. Every time he opens his mouth and talks it makes me look better.”
