Conor McGregor ‘To Defend UFC Lightweight Belt Against Tony Ferguson’

After Conor held his own against Floyd Mayweather, our boy Conor Mcgregor has finally announced his comeback!

Lucky for us, Conor won’t be taking on Michael Phelps (or that shark Phelps raced against) He also won’t be fighting his estranged sparring partner, Paulie Malignaggi.

Nope, Nate Diaz isn’t involved either… although we think that’ll happen again at some point. Let’s face it, the Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz fights were great.

Dana White, the mastermind behind it all… has more logical plans for the Irish champ!

Perhaps his eyes have been on defending the prize… The good news is his two-month health-related fight ban is now lifted… so we think he’s ready to throw down again.

McGregor’s going to be returning to his roots and defending his title against newly-crowned king Tony Ferguson, who earned the strap by submitting Kevin Lee in Sunday morning’s main event.

At the UFC 216 post-fight press conference, White said:

Tony’s the interim champion. Conor’s the champion. It’s the fight that makes sense. It’s the fight that has to happen. Doesn’t make sense. It’s the fight that has to happen.

It sounds like this fight could be happening sooner than expected.
