This really is the era of Boxing vs. MMA superfights.
Ever since Mayweather vs. McGregor talk made the headlines, every MMA fighter and boxer want to fight each other. Jimi Manuwa and David Haye, Lomachenko/Pacquiao as backup to fight McGregor etc.
The latest addition to the superfight rumours is Anderson Silva vs. Roy Jones Jr.
Anderson was recently at a press conference for UFC 212 in Brazil. His original opponent, Kelvin Gastleum, was pulled from the card after testing positive for marijuana. A new opponent has yet to be named.
A few questions were asked about a potential boxing/MMA superfight and Anderson was quick to tell of someone he’s always wanted to fight.
“First, it was always a dream to fight a guy like Roy Jones. I’m a fan. Second, it was always something that I wanted. I’ve followed Roy Jones since he was an Olympic athlete, and I’ve always looked up to his style of boxing.”
When could it take place? The McGregor/Mayweather undercard seems like the perfect option for the Brazilian. He even went further and said he’s always wanted to fight him regardless of the McGregor/Mayweather fight.
“It’s something I always wanted to do. Regardless of being in the UFC or not, it was always something I wanted to do”
