Anderson is facing a tough test at UFC 212 in June.
Fresh off a first round KO of Vitor Belfort, Kelvin Gastelum was quick to call out his next opponent. He called out legend Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva – and it looks like his wish was granted.
The UFC announced yesterday that Anderson will fight Gastelum at UFC 212 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. This will be Anderson’s first fight in Brazil in almost five years. Gastelum, who just fought in Fortaleza in Brazil, said he was open to the idea of fighting in Brazil again due to the warm reception from the crowd.
Anderson is coming off a split-decision win over Derek Brunson at UFC 208 last month. He’s 1-2-1 after returning from a two year layoff in January 2015. His two losses have come against two UFC Champions in Daniel Cormier and Michael Bisping.
Gastelum is now 3-0 at middleweight with wins over Tim Kennedy and Belfort, and Nate Marqaurdt in 2015. In the same stretch since Anderson’s return, he is 4-2 with a split decision loss to Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.
The UFC’s return to Rio De Janeiro sees Jose Aldo and Max Holloway main event to unify the Featherweight belts.
